About
Loosely modeled after London’s Poems on the Underground, Poetry in Transit uses space inside all Luzerne County Transportation Authority (LCTA) buses to display poems by local writers. The program showcases the voices and works of a diverse group of writers from northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond. Writers who otherwise would not know each other discover a common vision. Local residents gain access to poetry in a space where poetry wouldn’t normally be read.
Our goal is to demonstrate what art can do at its best: celebrate our common humanity.
Poetry in Transit 2019: Small
In 2019, I had the honor of being asked to design the panels. Each poem explores the idea of small. When I was designing the panels, I wanted to make each its own little work of art. I combined my own photography (or in a few cases, free stock images) with paint strokes to add color. In some, the paint strokes form abstract shapes, in some they add to the idea of the poem, and in others they are completely random.
